Photos of my work. Randal Graham W1 "Tiny" Tanto Polish and mounting by Summerchild
The original piece was done with a file-worked shinogi-ji. Realize that this tanto is *really* small and very "different". So in polishing I decided to leave the shinogi-ji in the original filework as it would have required me removing a great deal of material to smooth it all out. I also kinda fit the "hybrid west/east" look of the tanto. I'm still not sure if I did the right thing, but the customer was happy, the smith was happy, so I guess that's what matters. That's one thing about this craft -- often you're not sure if you've made the right decisions. But you have to make them and work with sincerity and earnest spirit. So if you fail, you'll fail on a grand scale. <smile>
I like this tanto. Very funky. Neat activity too. Notice the utsuri... In monosteel... Made outside of Japan...
